The
Benefits of Microfilming
Although
capturing documents digitally gives you a huge amount of flexibility,
there are still many benefits to be gained from archiving your
data onto microfilm. The main benefit is that Microfilm is 'future
proof'. The Microfilm format is unaffected by advances or changes
in digital formats or technology. All you need to read data
from a microfilm image is a lense and a light source. And what
with microfilm now boasting a 500 year lifespan, you can be
reassured of your archives permanence. Once captured onto film,
your imagery can be converted to digital format at any point,
giving you the flexibility of the digital archive as well as
the unsurpassed permanence of Microfilm.
Microfilm
Quality
We
pride ourselves in the quality of our Microfilm, and so every
step is taken to ensure a high quality micro image. Cameras
and equipment are cleaned regularly. Resolution, Desity &
Methylene Blue Tests are performed at regular intervals. Films
are checked thoroughly on microfilm lightboxes and readers.
All our processes conform to the latest quality standards.
Resolution
& Density Checks
We
check every part of the film image to make sure it is sharp
at the required resolutions. Density readings are taken and
recorded for each film processed to detect processing errors.
Methylene
Blue Tests
Methylene
Blue tests are required to provide evidence of archival standard.
The test measures the amount of residual thiosuphate remaining
on the film after processing. If chemicals are left on the film
after processing, the longevity of the film can be seriously
compromised. Passing this test ensures longevity and archival
permanence. These tests are performed and verified by an independent
laboratory.
